Vänern is the third largest lake in Europe with a maximum depth of 106 metres and an average depth of 27 metres. Vänern is home to 34 species of fish such as zander, northern pike, common whitefish, brown trout and salmon to name but a few. The largest of the Vänern salmon populations is called Gullspångslaxen, which is also the world’s largest lake salmon and can weigh more than 20 kg!

Lake Vänern has fishing opportunities for everyone, regardless of whether you go cast fishing among the archipelago’s islands, rocks and skerries or trolling on the vast expanses of Vänern’s open water. The lake also has more than 2,000 km of coastline with several large and small watercourses, many of which offering accessible and varied fishing.
