Islands and archipelago
Alvön and Långön are two picturesque, popular islands in Kristinehamn’s archipelago, where you’ll find jetties, swimming areas, designated barbecue sites and toilets. Read more here.
Brommö is an island outside of Mariestad, west of Torsö Island. You can reach Brommö by ferry or your own boat, but private cars are not permitted. This island offers cycling and walking trails, pretty beaches for swimming and sheltered bays. Read more here.
Djurö National Park is a gem in the middle of Vänern and consists of 35 islands. You can reach the islands in your own boat, and there are several scenic natural harbours for you to use. Read more here.
Kållandsö is just outside of Lidköping and is Lake Vänern’s second-largest island. It offers a beautiful archipelago, a fairytale castle (Läckö Slott) and the cosy fishing village Spikens Fiskehamn. Read more here.
Lurö archipelago is on the other side of the sound, north of Kållandsö Island. The entire archipelago is of national interest for its unique nature, cultural value and interesting flora and fauna. There are great walking trails and kayaking routes as well as restaurants serving delicious food. Read more here.
Tösse archipelago is the largest archipelago on the western side of Vänern. This beautiful area comprises more than 30 forested islands and a large number of islets and skerries for wonderful canoeing excursions. The islands of Svegön, Sandön och Björkön have inviting sandy beaches and lovely spots where you can pitch a tent. The islands include designated barbecue sites, toilets and walking trails.
